There are three milled slots on 120-degree rotational centers to provide balance with the set screws and eliminate gear or tire slipping on the axle. The center of the axle is reduced to 2mm diameter to provide additional motor bell to axle clearance with EuroSport gearing and high Kv 1105/1106 motors.
 

Installation of the Titanium Axle

•  Set Screw Engagement: Choose set screw length so the flat tip fully seats on the axle flat with good thread engagement in the wheel hub/gear (typically 3–5 threads minimum engagement).

•  Recommended set screws: Flat-point 4-40 set screws (KCR-555F) torqued to 3.5-4.5 in-lbs.

•  Thread treatment: Apply a small amount of medium threadlocker (ex: Loctite 243) to the set screw threads.

•  Alignment & balance: Align each set screw precisely with its corresponding milled flat. The 120° spacing helps maintain rotational balance; uneven clamping can cause vibration at high RPM.

•  Verification: After torquing, re-check torque after initial track use as the parts seat.

•  Hub/gear prep: Ensure the set screw holes in the tires and gear are clean, burr-free, and perpendicular to the axle for best face contact.

Spacers are recommended outside the bearings to properly space the set screws on the flats. Typically, a .022" (JK-U54) spacer is used.
